Tourist Tax in Tunisia: Let’s Calculate with Precision

14.01.2025 Hotels' news

What is the tourist tax charged to travelers in Tunisia? Is it the same for guests staying at hotels of different star ratings? How many nights will tourists have to pay for during a 7-night vacation compared to those staying for two weeks?

Here are answers to all your questions.

According to the law of the Tunisian Republic, which came into force on December 8, 2017, tourists visiting the country must pay a tourist tax when staying at a hotel.

As of November 1, 2024, an increased tax rate applies to all tourists:

  • 12 Tunisian dinars (TND) per person per night for stays in 4- and 5-star hotels.
  • 8 TND per person per night for stays in 3-star hotels.
  • 4 TND per person per night for stays in 2-star hotels.

The maximum number of nights for which the tax can be charged is 10, so guests staying at the hotel longer will only be charged for the first 10 nights of their stay. If tourists stay at the hotel for a shorter period, they pay only for the actual number of nights.

Children under the age of 12 are exempt from paying the tax. If a child turns 12 during the first 10 nights of the hotel stay, the tax is charged for the remaining nights within the 10-night period.
